Seniors Pairs Series finishes with a bang

The final round of the Pairs Series only fielded 26 paying customers. I’m guessing the doubtful weather forecast and the lack of belief in catching up with the top 6 paying spots on the leaderboard, may have played a part in the numbers dropping by 40% on last week’s entrants!! Well, the winners of the day certainly proved that anything is possible in a Multiplier format, posting the highest Stableford score I’ve ever seen in a Pairs Stableford comp. Lucky for the top 6 on the overall leaderboard, one of the winning pair played in 2 rounds of The Series only, and the other played in one.

 My adopted dad, Master Colin “Otis” Reading, accompanied by Tim Evans, posted a reasonable score of 32 points on the front 9, and then proceeded to blow all other hopefuls out of the park by posting a further 43 points on the back 9. Colin, our front runner in The Winter Stableford by 10 points, “oh my knees are buggered, I can’t walk anymore, old age is creeping up on me, etc., etc., etc….” even managed to roll in a couple of birdies on 16th & 17th, when most of our other self-respecting honourable Seniors would be running on vapour. Recommendation to The Seniors Committee to bring in post-comp doping tests is in order, me thinks!! Otis & Tim will be awarded £9 each for their outstanding record breaker performance, “well played gentlemen” just doesn’t do it justice.

Frank Mills and our joint keeper of the purse, John Holroyde, posted a respectable score of 58 points, picking up £4 each.

Commiserations to Mike Bridgman & Andy Copland missing out on the dosh, coming in with 57 points.

In huge contrast to last week, there were only 4 sharp shooters, picking up £6 each;

John Holroyde, Kieran O’Toole, Allan Pearson, and that man again, Colin Reading.

Our gratitude to the 10 gracious gentlemen for their contribution to the Captain’s Charity Fund.

And so to the overall prize fund and winners. A total of £126 was accumulated over the 4 comps in The Pairs Series, to be shared amongst the top 6 scorers.

Congratulations to Master Holroyde, our Champion of the series on 180 points.
